Pete Sampras lists his Brentwood estate for $8.9M.

Tennis legend Pete Sampras and his wife, actress-singer Bridgette Wilson-Sampras, have put their home in Brentwood on the market for $8.9 million.

The couple bought the gated estate new in 2009 for $5.9 million and renovated and expanded the property, customizing the interiors while adding a resort-style swimming pool to the grounds.

Set behind gates on a cul-de-sac, the contemporary-inspired Traditional is surrounded by mature redwood trees. Lawns, running streams and gardens fill an acre of parklike grounds.

The 6,900-square-foot house has a library and theater room plus a wine cellar. First- and second-floor master suites are each appointed with oversized closets and heated floors for a total of six bedrooms and 6.5 bathrooms.

An updated chef’s kitchen has a broad center island and a two-way fireplace shared with the formal dining room. Tall windows and clerestories take in the scenery

French doors off the kitchen open to a flagstone patio with an outdoor kitchen. Built-in water features, up-lighting and an outdoor fireplace add to the comfortable ambiance.

The 44-year-old Sampras won 14 Grand Slam men’s singles titles and held the No. 1 ranking for 286 weeks. Since he officially retired from the sport in 2003, he has beaten Roger Federer in an exhibition match, John McEnroe in the Outback Champions Series and Patrick Rafter in the Del Mar Development Champions Cup.
